Behind every unwashed plate is a bigger question: who carries the load?

At Paired, we brought an 8 foot mountain of dirty dishes to a gallery in New York’s Lower East Side. Why? To turn the hidden mental load of household chores into something impossible to ignore.

🧼 In heterosexual couples, even when both partners work full time, women still do the majority of housework.
💬 Nearly 1 in 5 couples say chores have made them consider breaking up.
💜 And 65% say the tension around chores kills intimacy.

“Our Dirty Dishes: Echoes of the Everyday” - created by artist @ioana_aron_n and curated by @theartvacancy - makes the invisible visible.

The sound installation features real voice notes from Paired users, sharing candid stories of emotional labor. Thank you to everyone who contributed, this piece wouldn’t exist without you.
